This simple weaving kit helped us break into our stash of leftover yarn from previous programs
Supplies:
- Boxboard rectangles (we've had a stack of these sitting around for a while but you could cut them out of cereal boxes or cardboard boxes if you want them to be stronger)
- Long, plastic, weaving needles
- Small amounts of yarn in various colors
- Instruction sheet
For this one I decided to create small (roughly two inches in diameter) balls of yarn in a variety of 5 colors so the teens could mess around with stripes and different patterns. Though you could just give everyone one skein to simplify the prep.
We've had these boxboard rectangles sitting around for a while and I'm not sure where they came from but they come in handy all the time and I was happy to find that they were a decent size for the project so I didn't have to cut anything.
The long, plastic needles were the only thing I had to buy and they ended up being the perfect size to cover the width of the tiny loom.
I basically followed the Instructables article How to Weave on a Cardboard Loom to test the kit, and took pictures as I went to create my own instruction booklet.
