Candy Sushi

This was a fully in-person program, that easily could have been a take-home kit if packaged differently.

Each teen was given enough materials to make 6 pieces that would fill up their take-home trays.

Supplies:

-Rice Krispie Treats

-Fruit By the Foot

-Swedish Fish

-Take-Home containers

To make one candy sushi, you need roughly 1/2 a rice krispie treat, 1 swedish fish, and 1/8th of a fruit by the foot.

So to fill the container each teen got 3 rice krispie treats, 6 swedish fish, and 1 fruit by the foot.

For the rolls, I had each teen cut a rice krispie treat in half (short ways), then take each half and round off the edges. We then used the back end of the knife to make a hole in the center of the treat, where the fish was placed. Lastly, the fruit by the foot was wrapped around the sides of the treat. Thankfully, each piece is sticky enough that everything holds together without additional adhesives.

For the nigiri the teens simply cut a rice krispie treat in half, placed a swedish fish on top and held it in place with a bit of fruit by the foot halved long ways and wrapped around.

Amount of teens: 8

Cost: ~$30

Success: Good! I was very happy that some of the teens results look better than my examples.
